So guys I've been thinking, after the great "Off the Beaten Path" meet, that some people who are into off-roading on a more realistic/skilful level might want to participate in an event that will suit these needs.
Specifically speaking, rock-crawling is the style of off-roading that this event will be providing. To get a better understanding off rock-crawling, feel free to watch this video:
As you can probably tell, it's way different to the normal off-roading that you are probably used to in GTA 5; realistically you wouldn't want to launch yourself off a cliff at high speed to see how far you would get but in GTA it's exactly what people might do. So, realism plays a big role in this as you try to execute lines to get over an obstacle while doing minimal damage to your car and controlling your speed (controller use is HIGHLY recommended - as it will allow you to vary your acceleration force).
This event is strictly for mature players only who are passionate about off-roading at a more skilful level so I will come up with a way to determine eligibility for the event (if enough people show interest). I have a few ideas for the complex rules that will come with this event but at the top of my head it would be as follows:
- beginner level off-roaders are not eligible for this event
- only specific cars will be allowed to use (open up to suggestions/requests)
- car upgrades must be purposeful (an aesthetic upgrade that will lower your ground clearance is useless and forbidden)
- no overtaking (unless instructed)
- NO purposeful crashing whatsoever
- speed must never be any faster than the pack leader (unless instructed)
- patience is key; you must wait for the person ahead to complete the obstacle before you attempt it (unless instructed)
- communication is key, so TeamSpeak is a must.
*This list will be re-evaluated and built upon if enough interest to this event is shown*
A rock-crawling event like this is not like your standard off-road meet, but more off a challenging and team-building type of event. The purpose of the difficulty level associated with rock-crawling is so that you can conquer obstacles and help others do the same, while at the same time spreading your own off-road knowledge and gaining insight from others. However, this event will also be longer than usual off-road events and for the full experience it's recommended to stay for the whole trip so prepare to clear your schedule for the evening if you do decide to come. *Expect parking and exiting your car at obstacles to observe how people tackle these obstacles and what lines they take in order to achieve that*
This event will take a boat-load of planning to do so if enough people show interest, I will start fully planning every aspect of the event when I'm free from exams, etc.
***UPDATE: I might be hosting a lobby for less experienced people who are interested in joining the event; where practice obstacles will be gone through and key points/techniques will be discussed.*** (18/12/2015)
***UPDATE: Unfortunately this event will be postponed as I got banned until the end of January.*** (02/01/2016)
***UPDATE: Map with marked route uploaded***(18/08/2016)
***UPDATE: Recommended car list added. Dress code and time of event announced***(19/08/2016)
***UPDATE: Event continue date announced***(22/08/2016)
DRESS CODE (yes, really)
(Sorry for late announcement)
Since my original planning for this event promoted the idea of incorporating realism to the meet, I thought a good way to do so would be to dress appropriately. There isn't a list of approved clothing but there is a guideline.
Essentially just dress up as you would if you went off-roading IRL; for example a hat, boots, shorts and a shirt.
Avoid articles of clothing and shoes such as suits, vests, heels and every other type of clothing that you wouldn't normally wear to an off-road event.
